Research and Development

Overview

The main objective of the research and development portfolio is to enhance sustainable raisin production in South Africa.

On the one hand, active research is undertaken to address issues of concern, whilst on the other hand a strong emphasis is placed on ‹technology transfer›, to ensure growers are abreast of the latest available technology to address production challenges.

It is of strategic importance to have a capable R&D portfolio, to drive the international competitiveness of the SA raisin industry.

Key PerformanceAreas

The following strategic objectives are included as part of Strategic Goals (KPA 3): Research and Development as outlined in PROJECT RISE, these are:
  • Strategic Objective 1: Natural Resource Development
  • Strategic Objective 2: Optimisation of Drying Practices
  • Strategic Objective 4: Optimisation of Vineyards
  • Strategic Objective 5: Technology Transfer

Research Activation

Research activations is achieved through the following standardised approach, namely:
  • 1. Identification and prioritisation of research areas/focus
  • 2. Call for research proposals, informed by industry needs;
  • 3. Evaluation of research proposals;
  • 4. Approval and activation of research project.
